The Municipal Education Secretariat (EMS) should provide information to the Municipality of Fortaleza on the criteria used in the appointment of principals and vice principals of public schools. The initiative is Alderman John Alfredo (PSOL), who claimed to have received complaint that a school principal would be removed from office by decision of a councilor in Fortaleza, which supposedly indicated someone else to take over. The councilman said he had received reports that the City will earmark "shares" of the direction of school for some council members. The application that requests information from the EMS was approved at the meeting yesterday.
The controversial issue raised in the House. The president of the Education Committee and leader of the PT in the House, Bill Sampaio (PT), came out in support of the municipal administration and said that there are no political statements for the definition of school principals. He said most of the current school principals in 2005 was defined by panels of three professional units developed by schools and reported to the municipal administration - which, according to William, was responsible for choosing the name to be appointed to the steering.
The chairman of the session, Carlos Mesquita (PMDB), made a statement to defend the political appointments of council members. "When a congressman indicating any position in the Federal Government, no one says anything, it is most natural thing, but when a city councilman, everybody is criticizing, saying it can not."
